Jayesh Ranjan is a civil servant working in the Indian State of Telangana (Hyderabad). He holds the portfolios of Information Technology and Industries & Commerce. His responsibilities include attracting new investments in the State, promoting innovation and entrepreneurship, creating digital infrastructure and fostering digital empowerment of citizens.
Successive governments at the country level have avowed to double farmers’ income in India. However, in reality this remains an unfulfilled achievement. In Telangana, we are confident that technology can be that game changer which actually helps farmers not only double but enhance their incomes much more substantially.
Through a very rigorous process, the government has identified various technologies that can help the farmers improve efficiencies, minimize costs and get better results at different stages of farming operations for some of the main crops that are grown in the state. Some of these technologies have already been tested, and after showing good results, are also being scaled up. The government is implementing the programmes in collaboration with multiple stakeholders, which include large corporations, start-ups, and more.
