Soonho Kim is a Senior Data Manager in the Markets, Trade, and Institutions Unit. Prior to joining IFPRI, Soonho worked as an Information Management Specialist in the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for six years. She holds a BA in Agricultural Biology from Korea University, Seoul, Korea, and a MS in Microbiology from Seoul National University. She received a PhD in Agricultural and Biological Engineering (major) and Computer Science (minor) from the University of Florida
This session, aimed at policymakers, governmental bodies, and academic circles, is designed to spotlight innovative tools developed by the Food Security Portal team at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) for analyzing and monitoring food security dynamics. This project is a response to the critical need for rapid assessment tools that emerged prominently during the 2007-2008 food crisis and was underscored during subsequent global challenges, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ukraine crisis. The session underscores the pivotal role of technology and data in addressing food security vulnerabilities and enhancing resilience against global market and weather shocks.
